Welcome to the Bedfordshire and Adjoining Counties Branch
The Bedfordshire & Adjoining Counties Branch was founded as a section on 1 July 1970 with a membership of 145 and covers the area of the counties of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, the districts of Peterborough, Huntingdon, South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge, and the district of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, and comprises the following postcodes: CB1-5, LU, MK1-9, 40-46, NN, PE1-8, 17-19 and SG15-19. Branch status was confirmed at a Council meeting held on 6 October 1977. The present membership is 468 (comprising 40 Fellows, 224 Members, 53 Associate Members, 76 Graduates,68 Students and 7 others).
The Branch supports the Institution at both national and local level, and aims to represent the views of the local membership at Headquarters meetings.
The Branch organises a number of technical meetings and social events throughout the year to promote the activities of the Institution and to benefit the local membership. Meetings and events are an opportunity to enhance the professional development of members, as well as to provide educational links for local students at Cambridge University and elsewhere.
Our technical meetings and social events are held at various venues across the branch area. We strive to organise speakers on a wide range of topics to allow members to keep up to date with the latest innovations in construction techniques, research, technical studies, legislation, health and safety, design codes and news of flagship projects.
The Branch takes an active role in the future of the profession through links with local schools and Universities, and promotion of careers. We carry out Professional Review Interviews for members applying to sit their AM or CM membership examinations, as well as interviewing members applying for transfer to Fellow.
The Branch web-site is designed to provide closer links to its base of regional members by promoting our local events and hopefully stimulating the interest of potential future structural engineers and technicians.
The Branch Committee members are all volunteers who give up some of their free time to help with the running of the Institution. We would welcome feedback, comments and ideas from members to enable improvement of the services that we provide. If you would like to join the Committee or wish to contribute in some other way, then Committee members can be posted correspondence within the Forum section. Alternatively full contact details are provided under the Committee section of this site.
