Welcome to the Malaysia Division/Group

Objectives of the Malaysia Division

To promote technical and professional development of members of the Institution residing in or visiting Malaysia , through meetings, other forms of communication and through close coordination with the Institution.
To arrange meetings for and to encourage members to prepare, discuss or present papers relating to the science and art of structural engineering and all its applications.
To arrange visits to works and places and objects of scientific interest relating to structural engineering.
To arrange joint meetings with other engineering bodies.
To achieve closer personal acquaintance and spirit of cooperation amongst Institution members in Malaysia.
To provide a local point of contact with indigenous engineering societies on all matters of mutual professional and technical concern.
To provide guidance and information on IStructE membership and to assist with interviews and the administration of the IStructE examinations.

Currently, the Division has a total of 146 members comprising 12 Fellows, 58 Members, 5 Associates, 1 Associate Member, 46 Graduates and 24 Students.

IStructE Malaysia Division has the pleasure to invite an Examiner - Mr. Rajavel Inbarajan BEng, MSc, DIC, MIStructE, CEng, in facilitating a Chartered Membership Examination (CME) preparation study group.

Dr. Judin Abdul Karim
	"Presidential Visit 2009" 21st August 2009 at Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM). President Dr. Graham Owens accompanied by CEO Martin Powell and IStructE Malaysia Division committee in a dialogue with representative from Institution of Engineers Malaysia. This was followed by an inspiring evening talk by the President titled "Our Value To Society In A Changing, Competitive World"

	"ASEAN Build-and-Break Competition 2009" 1st August 2009 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The winning teams taking a group photo on stage with the IStructE Malaysia Division committee members who had worked hard for months with UNITEN in ensuring not only a successful competition, but a fun-filled learning experience for the students!
	"ASEAN Build-and-Break Competition 2009" 1st August 2009 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The winning team of the competition from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. With a measured model self weight of only 104.6 grams, the breaking test load scaled to a total of 195.2 grams before it overturned.
	"ASEAN Build-and-Break Competition 2009" 1st August 2009 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The 1st Runner-up team from Curtin University Sarawak.
	"ASEAN Build-and-Break Competition 2009" 1st August 2009 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The 2nd Runner-up team from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
	"ASEAN Build-and-Break Competition 2009" 1st August 2009 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). 33 teams from 17 local Malaysian universities took part, plus the National University of Singapore. Each team had 5 students making a total of 170 participants, with 250 supporters.

The speaker - Mr. Rajavel Inbarajan BEng, MSc, DIC, MIStructE, CEng, from GHD Global Pty Ltd.
	One-Day Advanced Course In Structural Engineering 14th March 2009 at Laksamana Ballroom, Hotel Armada, Petaling Jaya. Jointly Organised by the Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Division, IEM & IStructE Malaysia Division. The audience listened attentively to the various informative points conducted similar to an examination preparation workshop for the Chartered Membership Examination.
	Evening Talk on “How to Pass the IStructE Chartered Membership Examination - An Examiner's Perspective" 13th March 2009 at Seminar Hall, Bangunan Ingenieur (IEM), Petaling Jaya. Jointly Organised by the Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Division, IEM & IStructE Malaysia Division. The speaker - Mr. Rajavel Inbarajan BEng, MSc, DIC, MIStructE, CEng, from GHD Global Pty Ltd, shared his viewpoint with over 30 participants of this evening talk.

	International Structural Engineering Conference and Exhibition 25 & 26 November 2008 at Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This conference as the last of Malaysia Division's Centenary celebration, was jointly organised with Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM).
	International Structural Engineering Conference and Exhibition 25 & 26 November 2008 at Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. With the theme, "Structure - Building for the Future," the conference attracted over 150 delegates and speakers from the United Kingdom, United States, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

	Build-and-Break Competition 2008 - Competition in Progress 16 August 2008 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Part of the Malaysia Division's Centenary celebration, this competition was to develop creativity in structural design amongst civil engineering students and to apply theoretical knowledge into practice under an intense competition environment. The competition received an overwhelming response with a total of 29 teams from 13 universities in Peninsula and East Malaysia.
	Build-and-Break Competition 2008 - Winning Team "Curtin 2" 16 August 2008 at Main Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The winning team in action, was from Curtin University (Miri, Malaysia campus). With a measured model self weight of only 186.0g, the breaking test load scaled to a total of 1159.3g before it suffered from in-plane overturning. The team members demonstrated exemplary teamwork during the competition and good time management.
	Fellowship Night 31 July 2008 at Royal Selangor Club, Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur (Near Dataran Merdeka). An evening function as part of Membership drive for Graduates and Students with very encouraging participation and repsonse.
