The Institution's membership examinations (Chartered Membership and Associate-Membership) are held once a year, worldwide, normally on the first Friday (following Easter) of April. Candidates entered for the examinations are free to choose their examination venue from the list of UK and overseas centres provided to them. The examination entry closing date is Friday 29th February some six weeks before the examinations commence.
Please note: Examination entry forms are sent ONLY to those candidates who have successfully completed their Professional Review Interview and those who are re-taking their examination.
Candidate instruction letters containing the candidate number, venue contact and venue details are posted three weeks prior to the April examination.

CM and AM Examination preparation CDs
Once again an interactive examination preparation CD will be issued to all those candidates who enter the CM and AM examinations to be held on Friday 17 April 2009. These will be available in early January 2009.
The previous examinations CD that consisted of past question papers, examiners reports and advice and guidance only has been discontinued as the information contained will now be incorporated within the interactive CD.
It will be possible for anyone not sitting an examination to purchase a CD and an advertisement giving details of the contents and cost will be published during January 2009.

First batch examination Entry Forms – 17 April 2009
Examination entry forms are being posted to those candidates who are currently eligible to sit the CM and AM examinations, who have already undergone a PRI and have sat the examinations on previous occasions.
The Examination Fees for 2009 are as follows:
- Chartered Membership (CM): £265
- Associate-Membership (AM): £215

The examiners’ reports for the April 2008 examinations is due to be published in the December journal issue of the Structural Engineer.
IStructE Examinations, Friday 17th April 2009
For candidates wishing to enter the Chartered Membership & Associate-Membership examinations held world-wide on Friday 17th April 2009 please note the following:
Examination entry forms 2009 will be posted during mid October to all candidates currently eligible to enter the examinations who have sat in previous years without success. Those candidates who are to undergo a professional review interview will be posted examination entry forms as and when they receive notification that they have been successful.
Closing date is Monday 9th March 2009.
The examination entry form with the appropriate fee must be received by the Institution on or before the above closing date. Examination entry forms received after this date will not be accepted for any reason. The Examination fees for next year will be confirmed in due course.
CM and AM examination preparation courses 2009
Details concerning Branch examination preparation courses will be made available as they are received during October.
IStructE Results 2009
The provisional date of release of candidate result letters is Wednesday 12th August 2009. Individual results will be made available in “my area” section of the Website on Thursday 13th August 2009 at 2pm.
Candidates should note that candidate results will only be released if all subscriptions, examination fees and all other charges have been settled in full. Candidates whose membership has lapsed after the examination will not receive their result until such time as the outstanding balance has been paid.
