The Institution of Structural Engineers is proud to announce two winners of this year’s Gold Medal: Chris Wise and Paul Westbury.

Activities, events & awards

Designed by structural engineers WSP and architect Renzo Piano for Sellar Property, the Shard comprises 26 storeys of offices, 13 of apartments, three of restaurants and a 19 storey hotel. It is surmounted by a 65m tall spire, containing a public viewing gallery, bringing the height to 310m.

The talk be given by John Parker and will concentrate on the structural aspects of the Shard: its design, construction and unusual features.
