Qualifying criteria
You may apply to join us as a Graduate Member if you are an engineer who has completed an accredited structural and/or civil engineering degree or the equivalent.
Graduate members work towards becoming professionally qualified as either Associate-members or Chartered members.
You will need to meet one of these academic requirements:
|
- |
Accredited degree A degree in civil or structural engineering from a university course accredited by the Institution through the Joint Board of Moderators or an Institution-approved equivalent qualification. |
| - |
Recognised degree If you have an academic degree that has not been accredited by the Institution via the Joint Board of Moderators, you may still qualify to apply to become a Graduate Member if the degree is recognised by one of these three international mutual recognition agreements:
- The FEANI Register - The Sydney Accord - The Washington Accord
For further details and information on accredited and recognised degrees please see the Academic Qualifications page. Details of all international mutual recognition agreements are provided by the Engineering Council. Visit www.engc.org.uk for more information. |
| - |
Non-accredited qualifications If you have an academic qualification from a course that is not accredited by the Institution or noted under a mutual recognition agreement, you can still qualify to become a Graduate Member by applying for an academic assessment. The Institution’s Academic Qualifications Panel (AQP) will review your academic qualifications and compare them against the learning outcomes that we require for you to become either a Chartered Member or an Associate-Member. This assessment is not a reflection upon the quality of your academic degrees. It may simply be the case that we have not yet visited your university to agree accreditation for your course, so it’s the best way for us to confirm your academic abilities. The results will help us determine that your qualifications are comparable with equivalent verified qualifications. |
We’ll be able to give you advice if you need to take some further learning in order to satisfy our academic requirements for your chosen professional grade of membership.
Fees for graduate members
We always encourage new graduates to join us as Graduate members within one year of successfully completing their degree course. It’s the best way to make sure you will get our full support at this critical time in your career.
Join us within a year of graduating to receive discounts from the full Graduate Member fee for two years. Leave it any longer than that, and the full annual Graduate member fee will apply across the board.
