Categories


The Structural Awards categories reflect the breadth of projects for which structural engineers are responsible. There are 11 categories to choose from:

The Award for Small Projects is awarded to a worthy project with a construction cost of under £1 million. Entries are considered on merit by the Structural Awards judging panel from those eligible projects entered against the principal 11 categories.




Heritage Award for Buildings

The Heritage Award for Buildings is for achievement in structural design involving restoration, conservation, extension or refurbishment of a heritage building, where the style and integrity of the original building is maintained and made evident in the final concept.

Heritage Award for Infrastructure

The Heritage Award for Infrastructure is for achievement in structural design involving restoration, conservation, extension or refurbishment of a structure other than a building, where the style and integrity of the original structure is maintained and made evident in the final concept. Examples include bridges, railway stations, port installations.

Award for Pedestrian Bridges

The Award for Pedestrian Bridges is for achievement in the structural design of pedestrian bridges or similar light bridge structures.

Award for Transportation Structures

The Award for Transportation Structures is for achievement in the structural design of bridges carrying transportation loading. Examples include road, rail, canal and airport bridge structures.

The Award for Commercial or Retail Structures is for For achievement in the structural design of commercial or retail structures. Examples include office buildings, shopping centres or outlets. This award is sponsored by Corus

The Award for Education or Healthcare Structures is for achievement in the structural design of education or healthcare structures.

The Award for Community or Residential Structures is for achievement in the structural design of community or residential structures. Examples include community centres, village halls, bus stations/shelters, places of worship, libraries, police stations, residential homes, housing, hostels or smaller-scale projects.
