Codes and Standards
Codes and standards can be defined as a set of rules or requirements determined by a consensus opinion and approved by a recognised body providing, for general and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results. Committees of manufacturers, users, research organisations, government departments and consumers are brought together to draft standards and ensure they are kept updated to meet the demands of society and technology. The general benefits of which are safety, quality, compatibility of parts or systems and consistency across international borders.
