The Research Fund
The Research Fund was created in 1993 to support the Institution's belief that research is vital in securing future advances in structural engineering. This fund is intended to support those undertaking research in this field and those involved in the dissemination of the results.
The Research Fund relies heavily on contributions and any donations made will enable the Institution to support a greater number of deserving proposals. Current initiatives supported by the Research Fund include the Young Researchers' Conference and the Undergraduate Research Grant. The fund also sponsors Innovation & Research Focus whose primary aim is to promote the application of research in building and civil engineering.

Apply for funding
Applications can be made for grants to support both undergraduate and post graduate research projects. Our Undergraduate Research Grants scheme sponsors undergraduate research to be carried out by individuals or small teams. The MSc Research Grants scheme sponsors postgraduate research projects carried out as part of a full or part-time MSc degree programme. Visit these pages for more information.
If you are intending to undertake a research project, please submit a proposal outlining the work to be undertaken and including the sum to be claimed, a breakdown of costs and a named referee. Applications will be considered three times a year. You do not have to be a member of the Institution to apply for funding.
