Speaker: Mr. Anil Hira BE(Hon) ME MIE(Aus) CPE(Aus), General Manager of VDM Consulting – Middle East
Over the last 10 years the Middle East region has experienced an unprecedented growth in high-rise construction leading to the region being the home for a significant portion of the global tall building stock from essentially a zero base. These buildings are becoming taller, lighter and more slender, which combined with market demands for more architectural complexity has created new challenges for the structural engineer.
Anil Hira will outline some recent trends in Tall Building Design with particular emphasis on the increasing use of computer applications and the associated pros and cons of this technology and its appropriateness to satisfy these demands with reference to specific examples of building projects he has been involved with.
Anil Hira is the general manager of VDM Consulting – Middle East, an Australian consulting engineering firm. He has over 30 years of consulting engineering experience in the area of structural design of highrise structures and complex structures. He has been associated with and responsible for over 50 buildings between 50 and 170 stories throughout the world. His expertise and interests include wind and earthquake engineering, soil-foundation interaction, and application of advanced computer analysis including FEA, and its application to structural design of tall building and complex structures.
He is also an Academic Associate at The University of Melbourne in Australia and is responsible for delivering a Masters subject on Tall Building Design and has written over 30 papers on various aspects of tall building design. He has also conducted numerous short courses on Tall Building design.
