The Institution of Structural Engineers' Educational Trust was established in 1991 with the main objective of promoting excellence in structural engineering.

It is aimed primarily at encouraging young people to enter the profession, with its principal activities falling broadly into three categories:

- The award of educational scholarships and travel grants
- The arrangement of competitions and award of medals and prizes
- The production of teaching materials for schools

The Trust is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, operating independently of the Institution although retaining strong ties.

The Trust has 11 directors, a mix of practitioners and academics plus one from the Institution and, most usefully, a head of design and technology from an independent girls’ school in Surrey.

The directors are all highly committed to the Trust and its activities, and are looking forward to contributing to the shaping of Institution policy in this vital field of education.
