Welcome to the Midland Counties Branch

Chairman Toby Mottram BSc, PhD, DSc, CEng, FIStructE
He is a Reader in the School of Engineering at Warwick University and his structural engineering research is with thin-walled components for novel and innovative lightweight construction. He is well-known for his contribution to knowledge and understanding that is enabling fibre reinforced polymer shapes by pultrusion to be exploited structurally. Toby teaches modules on forensic engineering and steel structures that is informed by the structural Eurocodes. He has been a member of the Midland Counties Branch committee since 1996, and has represented the Branch at HQ as a member on Council, Engineering Practice Committee, Journal Editorial Board and Research Panel.


The Midland Counties Branch was formed in 1925 and currently has about 900 members living in the West Midlands. Our meetings are mainly held in Birmingham with occasional meetings in Coventry and other locations in the West Midlands.
