Welcome to the Peterborough Section

About Us

The Peterborough Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers was initially formed in 1976 by our first local Chairperson, Tony Baker. Its purpose was to better serve its members in the local area. We now have a catchment area of some 200 members and often record up to 50 persons attending our evening technical and managerial meetings.

All members on the committee have volunteered their services to assist local members get the most out of their Institution. To this end, we have taken the next step into reaching our members, by the means of the Web Pages set up by the Institution.

We organise at least 6 evening meetings each session, commencing in September and ending in the following May. These meetings are aimed to encourage discussion and dissemination of topics and information of mutual interest to all levels of members. We also welcome non-members to our meetings.

A site visit is usually arranged in September for members to view a new construction project or some local engineering industrial plant. A social event is usually held in May at which members and their partners can enjoy an informal meal and visit some local point of interest.

In November, the current President and Secretary of the Institution join us for a evening dinner at Stamford. This is a unique opportunity to meet and talk to your President.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the committee is to promote and stimulate contact between local members of the Institution, as well as to provide lectures for continuing professional development.

· Offer a forum for members to meet and discuss all matters in connection with our profession

· Help and give advise to those who wish to join the Institution

· Offer local members the opportunity to obtain continual professional development through our activities

· Try and stimulate local members to take an active role in the Institution
