I have served on the Wales Branch Committee since 2003 and been a member of several sub-committees and two years on the Engineering Practice Committee at HQ. I thank my fellow committee members for the confidence they have shown in by appointing me as Chairman for our Centenary Session.

For those who do not know me I studies for my Civil Engineering Degree at the Polytechnic of Wales (now Glamorgan University). After graduating I worked for David Smart and Peter Chapman who had a general structural and civil engineering practice in Cardiff. Here I became chartered and MIStructE. I then worked for W T Davies Group involved with Building and Civil Engineering Contracting, Mechanical Plant, Road Haulage, Truck Sales, Quarrying and Demolition. I am now a Technical Director with Hyder Consulting working mainly in Building and Civil Structural Engineering, but also being involved in Telecoms, Nuclear Decommissioning, Asbestos Consultancy, Corporate Strengthening and Forensic Engineering to list a few.

I will be attending HQ for Professional Conduct Committee meetings and Council meetings during my period as Chairman. I will keep you informed with the issues that effect the Wales Branch over the coming session.

In our Centenary year we will be taking the message to young people that Engineering and Structural Engineering in particular is a stimulating and rewarding profession. We will be holding various Centenary Events which will be advertised.

I look forward to an exciting year and thank the committee members in advance for the support I know I will receive.
