Structural Awards 2012 – Open for submissions!
Why Enter?
The Structural Awards highlights the achievements and success of the structural engineering industry through the quality and calibre of the projects entered. From small scale extensions to complete refurbishments of listed buildings and the development of new iconic structures, the Structural Awards celebrates the accomplishments of the industry’s most innovative structural engineers.
Entering the Structural Awards allows you the opportunity to be associated with the continued growth and success of this annual occasion, highlighting the creativity and ingenuity of the structural engineering community.
You will also have the opportunity to raise your profile via the publicity that the Institution carries out for the Structural Awards. This includes shortlisted and winners’ details on the Institution’s website, and a feature in The Structural Engineer which is available to all our members.
By being a shortlisted or winning project, this accolade can be used in your future marketing material showing your commitment and the international recognition of excellence in structural engineering.
Who can enter?
Any structural engineer who is a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers can submit a project on behalf of their consultancy.
What type of project is suitable?
The Structural Awards welcome entries from around the world and are open to small and large projects. Judging is based on merit not scale. The project entered, however, should have been completed or be due for completion between 21 April 2011 and 19 April 2012.
Which category should I enter?
The Structural Awards categories are varied to reflect the diverse range of projects that structural engineers may be involved in. Projects can be submitted in up to two categories. You must demonstrate in your descriptive text how your project meets the judging criteria.
Project’s being entered into either the Small Projects or Small Practices categories are encouraged to enter another category to maximise the coverage of their submission.
Judging criteria
Submissions are judged on whether and to what extent the structural design of the project displays the following attributes:
Excellence
Creativity and innovation
Sustainability
Value
Please provide key descriptive text that demonstrates how your project fulfils the judges criteria. In addition, entries should concentrate on the structural engineering rather than the architectural or other aspects of the design, and the submission must include sufficient information (e.g. structural drawings and typical details) for the judges to asses the structural aspects. Entries are also encouraged to be concise.
There is an 8 page limit, including the entry form, and any attachments or additional information beyond the first eight pages will not be distributed to the judges.
