Young Structural Engineer of the Year Award
Awarded to exceptional young structural engineers
The Young Structural Engineer of the Year award is given to young structural engineers who demonstrate outstanding performance and show exceptional promise for the future.
The winner receives £1,500 and a certificate of commendation; the runner-up receives £500 and is also presented with a certificate.
How to enter
The competition is open to structural engineers who have not reached their 28th birthday by 1 April 2012. Candidates are required to demonstrate creativity and originality in structural engineering, and entries should include the following:

A report of not more than 2,000 words on a structural engineering project in which the candidate has had a significant input

It should describe the project, the individual’s involvement, and provide extracts from calculations

A nomination letter from the candidate’s employer of between 500 and 1,000 words

The candidate’s brief CV
All entries should be sent via email to youngstructuralengineer@istructe.org to arrive no later than Monday 2 April 2012. (Please do not send hard copies).
Criteria
You can receive a maximum of five marks on each of the criteria. The judges will consider your submission under the following areas:

Outstanding performance

Exceptional promise

Creativity (which covers cleverness, imagination, ingenuity, inspiration, inventiveness and originality)

Personal involvement

Knowledge of subject

Quality of written English

Clarity and presentation
