Design of Low and Zero Carbon Buildings

Since the Climate Change Act became law in the UK in 2008, the government has faced an obligation to reduce the output of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in massive amounts. The construction industry has its role to play in supporting the government to achieve these targets.

John Dowling's presentation will focus on the most cost effective ways to achieve significant operational carbon emissions reduction in modern new build construction. The presentation will also discuss embodied carbon emissions in buildings and how to carry out carbon footprint assessments. Finally, it will look at the most effective ways of achieving high BREEAM ratings.
