An Interview with a County Engineer

Bill Ward retired from West Clamorgan County Council last year after 49 years’ service in local government, with the last few years as County Engineer. He is a well-respected member of the engineering community in South Wales and particularly in the IStructE Branch, of which he is a Past Chairman. This interview was conducted by Dr. Howard Wright at the 1988 Branch AGM and proved so successful that this transcript was requested. A certain amount of editing has been necessary, but Bill Ward kindly approved the text.
