Book Review

Proverbs, David and Soetanto, Robby. Flood damaged property: a guide to repair. Oxford: Blackwell, 2004, ISBN 1-4051-1616-1, £39.50

An interesting publication which will probably find it's way onto the shelves of loss adjusters, surveyors, contractors and all those with an interest in flood damaged property. From the statistics provided this is likely to be an ever increasing number!

Undoubtedly, all those concerned with construction should be increasingly aware of the need to mitigate flooding, whether this is from general lack of surface drainage capacity and /or ill though-out flood defence streams. The signs are that our climate will become increasingly wet and, in this respect, increased flood awareness will be required by everyone in construction.

Having said that, this publication is likely to have limited appeal to engineers, as it deals primarily with various 'scenarios' of reinstatement, including methods and costs in respect to drying out flood damaged properties.
