Members of the Institution shall have a duty to update and broaden their professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis.

The current Code of Conduct states that members shall "Maintain and broaden their competence, and assist others to do so".

It is the Institution's intention to ensure that its members remain at the forefront in maintaining and developing their professional competence for their own benefit and for that of society.

Members should assist in furthering the formation and professional development of other members and prospective members of the profession.

Although it is not a condition of membership to submit a CPD return, The Institution does encourage members to do so by highlighting the advantages and benefits of submitting a return.
