Complimentary magazine subscription
All members receive a complimentary print and online subscription to the Institution's flagship publication; The Structural Engineer. Published monthly, each issue allows members to remain connected to the Institution, through the publication of: industry and Institution news; Project Focus papers; Technical articles (including a new series of Technical Guidance Notes); articles related to Professional Guidance; Research focused papers; Features that cover the Institution's major events and awards and an Opinion section containing "viewpoint" articles and readers' letters ("Verulam"). Furthermore, full access to The Structural Engineer's vast electronic archive - containing seminal material spanning more than 100 years, is provided.

Our library is one of the world's definitive centres for structural engineering research and technical information. Members enjoy free access to more than 60,000 works, in the form of books, journals, reports, standards, and papers. Two qualified librarians are on hand to conduct literature searches and answer your enquiries, in addition to offering:

Assistance with Professional Development
Structural engineers are continually developing their skills and knowledge base. The Institution is committed to ensuring that its members take an active interest in their IPD or CPD, so that professional performance at the highest level is maintained. The reporting of CPD is now mandatory and the Institution provides all the necessary administrative support to make the process as simple as possible.

Access to the Benevolent Fund
For more than 70 years, the Benevolent Fund has been helping Institution members (and former members) and their dependants, who have encountered financial difficulties as a result of circumstances such as:

bereavement
Financial assistance is provided according to an individual's needs, regardless of age, class of membership or country of residence. There is no requirement for an applicant to have subscribed to the Benevolent Fund.
