Current Practice
The Institution recognises that the vast majority of its qualified membership are competent practitioners in the various occupations which they hold within the building and construction industry. These members already undertake CPD in a variety of ways as part of their normal working day, but many do not recognise such activities as CPD. This is also true of members engaged in the various allied fields which contribute to this socially important and major wealth creating sector of society.
The concept of CPD is widespread among all professions. In the present climate of client and public opinion it is no longer acceptable for a person to state they are a professional; they must be able to demonstrate that they are keeping up to date. The Institution has responded to this and has decided to give new emphasis to CPD based on an obligatory system.
To further this objective the Institution requests every practising Fellow, Member, Associate, Associate-Member and Technician Member to complete and submit an Annual Return, detailing the member's CPD activities during the past year and their proposals for future CPD. |
