Subscription Reductions

Joint Membership Arramgements:

Hong Kong/South Africa/Singapore/British Colombia

If you have already informed IStructE that you are also a member of HKIE (and if you live in Hong Kong) or of SAICE (and if you live in South Africa), IES or APEGBC (DSE) your subscription has already been reduced. Should your joint membership cease, you must notify IStructE immediately. If a reduction has not been given and you wish to apply, please contact IStructE without delay.

Barbados/Trinidad & Tobago

If you are also a member of BAPE or APETT please read the enclosed notes regarding joint subscription arrangements with IStructE. If these notes are not enclosed, please request them.

Graduates

If you were admitted or transferred to Graduate membership within one year of graduation, you may be eligible for a reduction in your subscriptions for the first two years of your Graduate membership. If you did not apply within one year of graduation, the full subscription of £125 is payable. The appropriate amount is shown on the subscription notice.

Students

If you are a Student member and wish to request a reduction because you are studying, please inform the Institution.

Retired Membership

A member may apply for transfer to the Retired List; earnings of such members must be less than £10,000 pa from all sources.

Hardship

IStructE may reduce a member’s subscription in the event of severe financial hardship (or other exceptional circumstances) being demonstrated. If appropriate, you should write to IStructE as soon as possible setting out the reasons for your request. If your 2007 subscription was reduced and your circumstances have not changed, you must still write and request a reduction for 2008.

Low income

If you are unemployed, or if you are employed and your earned income from all sources is less than £10,000 sterling a year, you can claim a discount of 70% on all IStructE payments – including your subscription, examinations fees and publications.

Career break

If you expect to take a career break (for any purpose, including maternity/paternity leave) of at least 6 months, and as a result your annual income will be less than £10,000 sterling, should you wish to request a reduction in your subscription for 2009, please send details to the Membership & Education Director for consideration.

Other Subscription Reductions

There are no other grounds on which the Institution will reduce your subscription.
