Additional Payments
Benevolent Fund
The Benevolent Fund exists to offer financial assistance to members of IStructE, and their dependants, who find themselves in need. It is a separate charity from IStructE, registration number 1049171. If you do not wish to make a donation (£6 is suggested) please indicate accordingly on the remittance advice; no donation will then be shown in future. If you have agreed to contribute a higher amount, that is shown instead. You may wish to consider including a bequest to the Benevolent Fund in your will. For UK taxpayers, a Gift Aid declaration is on the back of the subscription notice. Each contributor becomes a member of the Benevolent Fund for the rest of the year.
Educational Trust
The Educational Trust promotes excellence in structural engineering education by providing financial sponsorship through scholarships, competitions and prizes. The Trust is a separate charity from IStructE, registration number 1001625. If you do not wish to make a donation (£6 is suggested) please indicate accordingly on the remittance advice; no donation will then be shown in future. You may wish to consider including a bequest to the Educational Trust in your will. Information on the work of the Trust, including Gift Aid details for UK taxpayers, is available from the Secretary of the Educational Trust. There is also a Gift Aid declaration on the back of
the subscription notice.
Research Fund
The principal aim of IStructE’s Research Fund is to give financial assistance to individuals for work of a research nature relevant to the interests of IStructE. To continue to assist in supporting research, IStructE relies on contributions to the Research Fund from members. If you do not wish to make a donation (£3 is suggested), please indicate accordingly on the remittance advice; no donation will then be shown in future. A leaflet on the Research Fund, including a Gift Aid declaration for UK taxpayers, is available from the Secretary of the Research Panel. There is also a Gift Aid declaration on the back of the subscription notice.
Late Payment
Any member whose subscription is outstanding on 28 February 2009 will cease to receive The Structural Engineer until the subscription has been paid; a supply of back issues may subsequently be available on request, but cannot be guaranteed. Such members will not be able to access My Area of the website, and hence the online journal. Members whose subscriptions remain unpaid on 31 March 2009 will be removed from membership. Those who subsequently wish to be reinstated must pay all arrears of subscription and any other outstanding dues, the following year’s subscription in advance, and a readmission fee before any application will be considered. Such members may no longer use IStructE’s designatory letters or titles, or (unless the Engineering CouncilUK fee has been paid through another institution) the letters ‘CEng’/‘lEng’. Furthermore, they may need to have their competence reassessed and may no longer be eligible for membership. Prompt payment avoids these consequences. If you expect to have difficulty paying your subscription, please write as soon as possible to IStructE, as requested overleaf under ‘Hardship’.
Resignation
A member wishing to resign as from 31 December 2008 should write to IStructE before that date, otherwise the subscription for 2009 remains payable. Members who do not pay an annual subscription but who wish to resign should also inform IStructE by 31 December 2008.
EC UK Fee
ECUK registration fees are collected by institutions on behalf of ECUK and are passed to them in full. If you are registered as CEng/IEng through more than one institution, you should pay only one fee, through the institution of your choice. If you have previously paid the ECUK registration fee via IStructE, this is shown on your subscription notice. Should you wish to withdraw from registration, or to pay the fee through another institution, please inform IStructE. Payment of the fee is essential if you are to retain the title ‘Chartered Engineer’ or ‘Incorporated Engineer’, as appropriate. If you are not registered with the ECUK you may not use the title ‘Chartered Engineer’/’Incorporated Engineer’ but may still use the title ‘Chartered Structural Engineer’/’Incorporated Structural Engineer’ (if you are in the appropriate grade of IStructE membership) together with this Institution’s designatory letters. You should be aware that, if you withdraw from the register, reinstatement may be a difficult and costly process, the outcome of which cannot be guaranteed. Although payment of the ECUK fee is discretionary, IStructE continues to recommend that Chartered and Incorporated Structural Engineers in the United Kingdom pay the fee shown on the subscription notice. |
