Qualifying criteria
Associate-Members are an integral part of any design team. You will be able to solve structural engineering problems and contribute to the production of viable structural design solutions using appropriate methods of analysis, and be able to exercise independent technical judgement and management.
As an Associate-member, you may also enjoy formal recognition of your professional status by using the designation AMIStructE.
Additionally, you may gain further professional registration with the Engneering Council and use the designation Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
Qualifying to become an Associate-member is straightforward and involves three key stages:
- Hold an Institution accredited Bachelors (ordinary degree) or the equivalent e.g. a HND plus Associate-Membership Examination.
- Successfully complete the IPD programme. This training programme includes 13 core objectives set to bridge the gap between education and becoming a qualified Associate-Member
- Attend and pass a Professional Review Interview (PRI) and the seven hour Associate-Membership Exam
The Institution has created a number of bridges and ladders between all the grades and Associate-Membership can be used as a stepping stone to other grades of membership.
