Reinstatement of membership
If your membership has lapsed, reinstatement is not automatic. The reinstatement process depends on your grade of membership (at the time it lapsed) and the length of time since the membership was held.
Reinstatement of Student membership
If you are

a previous free Student member who did not notify the Institution of an extended period of study, or you enrolled on another course/degree following graduation and wish to reinstate, you can do so by providing us with confirmation of your studies at the University/College, and include the following: your full name, the full title of your course and the course’s start and end date.
or if you are

a previous free Student member now eligible for Graduate membership, and wish to reinstate, you must apply for Graduate membership. The current Graduate subscription rate will apply.

If you are a resigned Student member in Employment or a lapsed Student member in Employment, please note that you will only be reinstated subject to payment of any arrears (if applicable), a reinstatement fee and the subscription fee for the year you wish to be reinstated. If you are eligible for any reductions please include information pertaining to the reduction in your correspondence.

Please note that you cannot be reinstated to the grade of Student if you have in the past been a Graduate member or a professionally qualified Member (TIStructE, AMIStructE, AIStructE, MIStructE and FIStructE).
Reinstatement of Graduate membership
If you are a resigned Graduate member or a lapsed Graduate member, please note that you will only be reinstated subject to payment of any arrears (if applicable), a reinstatement fee and the subscription fee for the year in which you wish to be reinstated. If you are eligible for any reductions please include information pertaining to the reduction in your correspondence.

Reinstatement of Professionally Qualified Membership (TIStructE, AMIStructE, AIStructE, MIStructE and FIStructE)
The reinstatement process for professionally qualified members is determined by the length of time elapsed since the membership was held.
All professionally qualified members wishing to reinstate will be required to pay any arrears (if applicable), Engineering Council fees for the interim years (if applicable), a reinstatement fee and the subscription fee for the year in which they wish to be reinstated.
Important Notice – Professional Qualified Grades only
If the membership has lapsed for a period of 3 years or more, and registration with the Engineering Council has not been maintained through another Institution, a Professional Review Interview must be undertaken prior to reinstatement. We will only be able to reinstate your membership and re-register you with the Engineering Council once you have successfully passed the Professional Review Interview and your reinstatement has been presented to the relevant panel. Please be advised that even if you choose not to re-register with the Engineering Council you will be required to undergo a Professional Review Interview.
Where an individual has maintained their registration with the Engineering Council through another Institution (ICE, CIBSE, RINA, IET, RAes, IMechE, IMarEST) a Professional Review Interview is not required, although we may require additional documentation to be presented.
