Fellow

The grade of Fellow (FIStructE) is the highest grade of membership offered by IStructE. Fellowship is awarded to those members who have demonstrated significant achievement and professionalism during their careers. IStructE Fellows will have fully developed their careers with several years of senior professional experience, and owing to the strict application criteria, less than one fifth of IStructE Chartered members can expect to achieve this grade.

There are many benefits to becoming a Fellow of IStructE including:

• Professional recognition by one's peers. The Fellowship grade identifies structural engineering's finest in terms of experience and expertise. This can be demonstrated in a variety of ways including the development of new technologies, meeting new environmental challenges and social needs, or enhancing the visibility and scope of the profession;
• Raised profile through enhanced visibility. With the FIStructE designation, one's name and career profile may appear in the IStructE Journal and on the IStructE website. Fellows are also highlighted in the membership directory/yearbook;
• Elevated visibility of the Fellow's organisation. As a direct result of raising the profile of an individual within an organisation, that organisation's profile will in turn experience elevated visibility. There is also an implicit advantage to an organisation that can prove that the achievements and experience of their employees have been formally recognised.

Other benefits include:

• Distinctive gold membership card;
• A dedicated 'Fellowship Executive' to promptly resolve any queries pertaining to membership or Institution events.

Successful Fellowship applicants will be invited to attend a formal ceremony where they will be presented with their certificate by the President of IStructE.
