Welcome to the Caribbean Regional Group

This group represents members of the Institution of Structural Engineers in the area, and should be contacted if you have any queries relating to the Institution or to structural engineering in general.

The group covers all of the Caribbean islands and Florida, USA. The group maintains communications between the Caribbean and the Institution headquarters, and between the Caribbean and groups of the Institution in other countries. The group website is of critical importance because of the geographical challenges of the region.

Dr Dana van Alphen awarded Honorary Fellowship of The Institution of Structural Engineers

Dr Dana van Alphen has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of The Institution of Structural Engineers. She is only the second person closely associated with the Caribbean to be made an Honorary Fellow of the IStructE. (The first person is Sir Shridath Ramphal who received the award in1988 while serving as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.)

Regional Groups - explaining the name change

As you may have noticed, the term ‘Regional Groups’ has been cropping up when referring to Branches, Sections and Divisions. We do realise that some of you may be wondering where this term has come from and why the decision has been made to change the terminology used by the Institution, so we thought it best to explain!
