Professor Roger Plank – donation to help international aid
Published: 31/01/2012
Professor Roger Plank, past president of the Institution of Structural Engineers, has made a personal donation to disaster relief charity RedR.
In August 2011, the Institution formalised its links with RedR by becoming a patron of the charity. During a visit to China as President Roger was asked to provide a presentation – he gifted his payment for this event to RedR in recognition of the charities invaluable work.
Roger’s donation will go towards providing vital training for relief workers involved in humanitarian programmes around the world.
This includes structural engineers who can deliver essential in-country training following major natural and man-made catastrophes.
The Institution has had a long standing affiliation with RedR - often promoting its work in the humanitarian sector and recruiting structural engineers, when their skills are needed most, to disaster affected areas.
The partnership between the Institution and RedR was formally recognised at St. James's Palace in London on 2 February 2012. At the event the Institution received a certificate from the President of RedR, HRH the Princess Royal.
If you would like to get involved in the work of RedR there are several ways you can do this - including taking part in training, helping the charity fundraise through its challenge events or by becoming a RedR member.
Visit the RedR website to find out more information. Additionally, the annual fundraising event ‘Wear Red for RedR’ is taking place on the 10 February 2012.
