Dr Graham Owens FREng MSc PhD CEng FIStructE FRSA

Dr Owens has forty four years experience in structural engineering, encompassing construction, design, teaching and applied research.

For twenty one years he was Assistant Director and then Director of the Steel Construction Institute, joining at its formation in 1986. Operating under its mission statement to develop and promote the effective use of steel in construction, this organisation developed a world-class reputation for the excellence of its applied research, 250 publications, IT dissemination, courses and advisory service for its members.

Dr Owens is the author of over 60 papers and two books. He is the editor of Structural Steel Design and the Steel Designers' Manual. He has been awarded two Oscar Faber Medals and an Oscar Faber Award for papers in The Structural Engineer.

Ever since Dr Owens was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 1996, he has been actively involved with the Institution. He has been Chairman of the Communications Strategy Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board and a member of Council, Nominations Committee, Remuneration Panel, People Awards Judging Panel, Structural Awards Judging Panel and the Strategy Panel.

Dr Owens was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2003.
