Institution of Structural Engineers President

Elected by the Council from among the Vice-Presidents, the Institutions President plays a pivotal role in the Institution's affairs.

Throughout their one year presidential term, the President has a full diary of commitments; chairing meetings of the Executive Board and the Council as well as visiting the branches, sections and divisions and representing the Institution to the public and many external organisations.

The Institution's 89th President is Graham Owens who looks forward to the Institutions second century. During Owens Presidential Address three strategic leadership priorities of the Institution were highlighted:

Professional
Maintaining professional standards for structural engineering; ensuring continued technical excellence; advancing safety, creativity and innovation across the built environment.

Excellent
Celebrating excellence, sharing inspirational thinking with the public, students and young people; communicating with a wider audience, enabling greater understanding of the role of the structural engineer as a shaper of the environment: influencing governments.

Sustainable: Social, Environment, Economic
Promoting a sustainable approach to both the structural engineering profession and the built environment; supporting engineers as they protect, influence and take forward our environment's development responsibly.
