Hong Kong(SAR)

The Memorandum of Agreement with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers was signed in August 1988. This followed the usual pattern of the formation of a joint IStructE/HHKIE Committee to serve both Institutions. The agreement proposed the adoption of common examination and assessment criteria leading to corporate/chartered membership. A supplement to the agreement was signed in September 1992, which was based on the mutual recognition of qualifications for corporate membership and included provision for a pass in IStructE or IStructE/HKIE common examination for chartered membership. A further agreement was signed in August 1999 to formalise the operation of a Joint HKIE/IStructE Division. Members of IStructE in Hong Kong who are also members of the HKIE are entitled to a reduction in subscription of 30%.
