About IStructE


The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is the world's leading professional body for structural engineering. It is a leading source of expertise on all structural engineering and public safety issues in the built environment. The Institution has over 23,000 members in 105 countries around the world, and is recognised internationally for the technical and professional competence of its members. The Institution qualifies its members by assessing their professional competence, setting the highest standards in their delivery of safety, efficiency, sustainability and excellence in structural engineering.

IStructE celebrated its Centenary on 21 July 2008 to mark the 100th anniversary of its first ever Council meeting held at the Ritz Hotel in London on 21 July 1908. Between October 2007 and December 2008, IStructE is organising inspiring events and activities around the world that celebrate the work of structural engineers and the vital contribution they make to society and the built environment.
