Accreditation and Universities
Qualifications acceptable for CEng registration are accredited by the Joint Board of
Moderators. Established in 1976 the Board comprises IStructE, ICE, IHIE and IHT
to create common standards of accreditation.
The Joint Board of Moderators accredits degrees as meeting current educational
requirements (stage 1) for registration in the Chartered Engineer section
of the EC UK's register. Under the EC UK's UK-SPEC requirements candidates seeking registration as a chartered structural engineer must complete an accredited MEng or its equivalent. Graduates who complete an accredited BEng(Hons) under SARTOR(1997) or UK-SPEC will also be required to complete a Period of Further Learning to bring their qualification up to the equivalent of an MEng.
Graduates on courses which do not appear on the list of accredited courses can apply for their academic qualifications to be assessed under the Individual Case Procedure and may be requested to pass specified subjects of the EC UK's examinations in order to provide an academic base for a career in structural engineering.
Qualifications acceptable for IEng registration are
accredited by both the Joint Accreditation Panel and the Joint Board of Moderators, set up in conjunction with a number of other institutions to create common standards of accreditation for registration in the Incorporated Engineer section of the EC UK's register (stage 1). Candidates who have completes an HND under SARTOR(1997) or UK-SPEC will also be required to complete a Period of Further Learning to bring their qualification up to the equivalent of an accredited three year IEng degree.
Students holding a qualification which does not appear on the list of accredited IEng courses can apply for their academic qualifications to be assessed under the Individual Case Procedure.
