Career Profiles

A career in structural engineering offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design of the built environment which societies need to develop and function. Structural engineers work on a variety of projects such as offices, housing, hotels, bridges, offshore oil platforms and many other structures. They may work for contractors, consultants, local authorities, research institutions or in teaching and research. Many opportunities exist for working overseas. A few members of the Institution of Structural Engineers speak about their experiences of a career in structural engineering and what attracted them to the profession in the first place.

In addition to the career profiles below the CIC has created a video titled 'CIC Building Visions' which has been sponsored by both the Educational Trust and the Institution. The video is targeted at young people aged 14-18, who are thinking about their career choices. For more information on this video click here.
