Current Initiatives

Panels provide an on-going focus for the Institution’s technical work in the areas of Codes & standards, Building legislation, Research, Sustainable Construction, Rethinking Construction and Publications. These areas are linked from the previous page.

Other current initiatives include:

• Approved Persons – the IStructE is working with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to develop a scheme for structural engineers to be able to register as an Approved Person. This will allow them to certify the compliance of a building control submission with the structural requirements of the Building Regulations in England and Wales.
