The Vibration Control Of Twin-Tower Connected High-Rise Building With Damper

Aims of research:
The symmetric twin tower connected high-rise building has, e.g. Defence Tower in Paris, close primary torsion and movement peorids, so the torsion and movement viberation are coupled and the trosion has great seismic response. To reduce the torsion viberation and design this type of structcture in a safer way, dampers will be applied in different part of the building, e.g. the connected part , and further computation research will be taken with finite element method.
Description of method:
The main research method is computation with finite element software Ansys. The research will include the following steps:
1) Collection of reference materials from liberary and internet ; 2)Do some theoritical analysis based on simplified model and with viberation equation; 3)Research the elastic dynamic characteristic of sysmetric twin-tower connected buildings without damper, the connected parts' storeys, stiffness, position will be the varies, the data will be analysis with some maths tools,e.g. Matlab. The output energy distribution of different viberation mode will be calculate; 4)the twin-tower connected buidlings with different dampers will be reserched, the rest contents are the same with step 3). The selection of damper devices and dynamic valus will based on the result of step 3);5) Comparation of two groups of compuation results in dynamic control; 6) Draw the conclusion and present the design advices, predict the futher reseach dirctions. When analysis with Ansys, the member, wall and membrane elements will be used. The software can model accurately and give a very precise result. So it is selected as the main computation tools.The software will be provided by Ansys(China) Co.Ltd by a research program: Ansys Simulation Laboratory.
Benefits to structural Engineering:
Since the twin tower connected high rise buildings are a new type of structure, more and more landmark projects are design and construction in this way. But the characteristic of it have not been reseach in system, especially the torsion control is a big challange before civil engineers. This research program will give the concept design princple of symmetric twin-tower connected high-rise buildings. And it will be the base of research of unsymmetric twin-tower connected high-rise buildings. A thesis will be presented in the 17th National High-rise Building Technology Conference in Shanghai in Oct,2002 to reflect the achievement of this research project.
