Title of project: Development of novel risk based guidance for the glazing of highly glazed buildings

Synopsis of project: This project is intended to address the safety of glass installation (glazing) in highly glazed buildings; in particular it will address the design and construction process for the installation of glass, subsequent maintenance and future replacement work. The specific objectives are as follows:

  • To investigate the current approach to safety in the design and construction of highly glazed buildings and the type and numbers of accidents that occur.
  • To develop a novel risk based approach to the design, construction, maintenance and replacement of glazing elements of highly glazed buildings, in order to reduce accidents.
  • To publish the risk based guidance and disseminate it to industry.
