Health & Safety Panel
IStructE set up a Panel in early 2004 dedicated to the topic of health and safety in construction. In addition to the revision of the CDM Regulations, and the effects this will have upon the industry the Panel is also considering:
- Competency
- CDM Regulation & ACoP guidance
- Dissemination of information to members
- Best practice notes
- Professional Visitor Card
- Liaison with other key organisations/groups
- HSE initiatives
The Panel members come from a spectrum of different sized organisations, academia and includes permanent representation from the HSE.
The Panel meets 4 times a year.
The Panel's terms of reference are:
- To be responsible for developing and implementing policy concerning health and safety matters relating to structural engineering and the members of the Institution.
- To act as the focus for the Institution's involvement, and that of its members, in health and safety related matters, and for the development of advice and guidance to both members and clients.
- To keep under review, and to seek to influence, health and safety related legislation, regulations, codes of practice and other matters affecting the profession.
- To maintain working relationships with appropriate external bodies (HSE, CIC, ICE, inter alia).
- To maintain working relationships with other Institution committees and panels, such that information is disseminated appropriately.
