IStructE/HSE Designer engagement scheme
IStructE hope to encourage open dialogue and understanding between designers and the HSE inspectorate. To advance this a framework for HSE inspector visits into design offices has been developed which it is hoped will be taken on board by the Branches and promoted to their local practices. The intention is one the one hand for the HSE inspector to appreciate at first hand how issues of health and safety are normally considered and accounted for, and on the other hand for the practice to get some feedback from the HSE on what is expected of them, though it is to be stressed that this will not take the form of an official HSE visit.
The attached document briefly gives some background to the scheme and an outline of how it might be approached. An article describing the experience from a consultant’s viewpoint is available here.
