About Nicholas Ratcliffe

After taking his degree at the University of Sheffield in 1970 Nick Ratcliffe began his career as an Assistant Engineer in Kenneth Severn & Partners. He then moved for a short period to Engineering & Resources Consultants Ltd., and in 1974 he joined Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick & Partners as a Project Engineer and settled in Hong Kong.

Since 1982, Nick has been Chairman of BMMK, Ratcliffe, Hoare & Co Ltd, based in Hong Kong, which he founded in conjunction with the UK-based practices of BMMK Cotterell and Kenneth Severn & Partners. His work involves projects throughout China and South East Asia. He has been actively involved with the Institution's Joint Structural Division with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and was a Council Member of HKIE up to 1998.

From January 2000 Nick has acted as an examiner for the Supplementary Tests in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China, under the Institution's Agreement with the National Administration Board of Engineering Registration (Structural) (NABER(S) of the PRC. He is also a registered Class 1 Structural Engineer in the PRC.

He assists with professional assessments of young civil and structural engineers and is keen to encourage and promote young structural engineers at the start of their careers.
