The necessity of saving steel in war-time lends special interest to methods of increasing the strength of mild steel to reinforce concrete. I propose to discuss here the properties and use of a material, obtained from mild steel by a method known as the work hardening process. This is now receiving special attention since British Standard Specifications are being prepared for steel treated in this way.
