You will have gathered from reading the paper and from the presentation tonight that we began with a feeling of wild enthusiasm, which remained with us right through the project on site.

Mr C. K. Davies, corresponding from Balawayo, Zimbabwe, offers what he sees as a relatively trouble-free solution! Sometime ago, I addressed myself to the problem of PI insurance through the Institution’s secretariat. The gist of my suggestion was that of cover being provided by the Institution via the membership structure. It was my contention that, in this way, the conduct of our members might be monitored and penalties applied where the level of claim becomes unreasonable. Verulam

A simple, approximate procedure for predicting the shear and normal stress concentrations in the adhesive layer of plated, rein forced concrete beams is presented. The theoretical results are compared, and show close agreement, with available test results and with rigorous theoretical analyses based on partial interaction theory. T.M. Roberts
