The Structural Engineer, Volume 67, Issue 7, 1989
Our perception of ourselves is, I believe, of vital importance to the status of the structural engineer, and should encompass our potential for greater influence and recognition within society. The need to challenge this perception of ourselves and our Institution is a stepping stone on which we must tread, to face some of the issues that lie before us as a profession. A.H. Stevens
Bill Ward retired from West Clamorgan County Council last year after 49 years’ service in local government, with the last few years as County Engineer. He is a well-respected member of the engineering community in South Wales and particularly in the IStructE Branch, of which he is a Past Chairman. This interview was conducted by Dr. Howard Wright at the 1988 Branch AGM and proved so successful that this transcript was requested. A certain amount of editing has been necessary, but Bill Ward kindly approved the text.
