The Structural Engineer, Volume 76, Issue 5, 1998
The standard methods of applying fire protection to steel framed structures, in the form of board, spray or intumescent coating, are well known. However, owing to material and fixing costs the need for passive fire protection is classed as a distinct disadvantage of using steel as a material for structural frames. C.G. Bailey and G.M. Newman
Francis Walley was educated at Cheltenham Grammar School and the University of Bristol. He was awarded a BSc in 1940, a MSc in 1945, and a PhD in 1968. R.F. Hughes
This paper describes the design and construction of a carpark for the Council of the Borough of Crawley, W Sussex. The structure is not notable for any ground-breaking originality but, in the designers’opinion, it demonstrates ingenuity in exploiting material properties in the pursuit of the client's expressed wishes. J.S. Fraser
