We fund and provide administrative support for Structural-Safety, which works with industry on safety matters concerned with the design, construction and use of structures. Structural-Safety is also funded by ICE and the Health and Safety Executive.
Structural-Safety has two entities:
SCOSS is a committee established to maintain a continuing review of building and civil engineering matters affecting the safety of structures.
CROSS is a UK confidential safety reporting scheme established to capture and share lessons learned which might not otherwise have had formal recognition.
In 2018 CROSS-AUS launched an similar scheme in Australia.
CARE is a published list identifying civil and structural engineers who are skilled in the conservation of historic structures and sites. The Register is administered by ICE and supported by the Institution. Members of the Institution with appropriate experience are able to apply.
RedR helps rebuild the lives of people affected by natural disaster and conflict by supplying engineers and other skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes worldwide. IStructE is a patron of the charity.
