Committees

The Institution of Structural Engineers has five committees which support the work of the Institution and promoting the work of the industry more generally

Members of the Institution are encouraged to take an interest in committee activities. If you would like to become involved, please contact the relevant committee secretary by clicking on the link of the committee above.

Currently, the committees in operation are as follows;

Structural Futures Committee

Structural Futures Committee

Membership of the Structural Futures Committee is a good way to play an active role in industry developments and form lasting partnerships with relevant organisations and government agencies.

The Education Committee

The Education Committee

The Committee advises the Board on matters regarding the Institution’s education strategy, which offers ‘cradle to grave’ support from primary to tertiary education.  It also develops the education business plan and determines priorities in accordance with the Institution’s overarching strategy. 

Engineering Leadership Group

Engineering Leadership Group

Membership of the group involves attending meetings and assisting with the work of the group between meetings. As a member you'll have full access to all Engineering Leadership Group meeting minutes and other related documents.

The Membership Committee

The Membership Committee

The committee meets four times a year to monitor the progress of panels and working groups under its supervision. The Committee oversees the development of policy in relation to education standards, training and career development. 

The Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee

Responsibilities include coordination of the election process of the President, Vice-President, Council members and the Board; recommendations for UK state honours;  making decisions and elections regarding the following annual awards

The Professional Conduct Committee

The Professional Conduct Committee

The committee investigates allegations of professional misconduct and is also responsible for reviewing the Code of Conduct, guidance notes and disciplinary procedures. The committee meets five times a year.

The Resources Committee

The Resources Committee

Membership of the Resources Committee is a good way to play an active role in the planning and control of Institution resources including budget management, staff and facilities.

Membership of the Design Practice, Risk and Structural Safety Committee is a good way to play an active role in industry developments and form lasting partnerships with relevant organisations and government agencies.

Business Practice and Regulatory Control Committee

Membership of the Business Practice and Regulatory Control Committee is a good way to play an active role in industry developments and form lasting partnerships with relevant organisations and government agencies.
