About the Committee
The Design Practice, Risk and Structural Safety Committee consists of a Chair and up to 13 professionally registered volunteer Members of the Institution, or co-opted experts. The Committee members are all experienced practitioners and are able to provide guidance to the Institution's wider membership on topics which may affect Members or the construction industry relating to Design, Risk and Structural Safety.

Membership of the Design Practice, Risk and Structural Safety Committee is a good way to play an active role in developing guidance to ensure that the Institution's membership have access to relevant information within the built environment relating to Design, Risk and Structural Safety.
Membership of the Committee involves attending four meetings a year, and actively contributing to the activities of the Committee. As a member you will have full access to all Design Practice, Risk and Structural Safety Committee meeting minutes and other related documents.
All Institution Members are invited, in the Autumn, to apply to join the Committee for the following session and should provide background information relating to their experience within the subject matter covered by the Committee.
- To provide input into the Institution's technical strategy in relation to design, risk and structural safety.
- To monitor and respond to changes which may affect the Institution's members and the construction sector both within the UK and globally.
- To promote and develop a series of activities to support and further the Institution's Members understanding and engagement on design, risk and structural safety.
This Committee also provides direction, oversight and scrutiny of the work of the following groups:
This Committee works closely with the Engineering Leadership Group and the Head of Technical Secretariat Services.
