The Education Committee
About the committee
The Education Committee is made up of the President, panel chairpersons and up to 12 others. The Committee also includes representatives from: Associate-Member grade, Technician Member grade, the Joint Board of Moderators and the Engineering Council. There are also a number of corresponding members involved in the Committee.
The Committee meets four times a year to monitor the progress of panels and working groups under its supervision. The Committee advises the Board on matters regarding the Institution’s education strategy, which offers ‘cradle to grave’ support from primary to tertiary education. It also develops the education business plan and determines priorities in accordance with the Institution’s overarching strategy.

By getting involved in the Education Committee you can play an active role in the education of future structural engineers.
Membership of the Committee involves attending meetings, assisting the work of panels and working groups and acting as a point of contact. As a member you'll have full access to all Education Committee meeting minutes and other related documents.
- Overseeing the work of the Academic Qualifications Panel and contributing to task groups;
- Advising the Board on the education strategy and recommending priority areas of work in this area;
- Engaging with issues raised by the the Engineering Council, Engineering UK, Education for Engineering (E4E), government agencies and other relevant organisations concerned with education;
- Monitoring the work of the Joint Board of Moderators and approving recommendations on accreditation.
