Chief Executive, Martin Powell, introduces the Institution’s new International Headquarters at 47-58 Bastwick Street, London.
It is a real pleasure to begin 2015 by introducing you to the Institution’s new International Headquarters.
This is a hugely exciting time, as we start the New Year in a fresh, modern work and events space which has been specifically designed for the needs of our members and staff. Bastwick Street offers a leap forward in the way members and Institution engage: improved video conferencing and webinar abilities will vastly improve connectivity among our international membership, while our new business centre and adaptable events spaces make for a much enhanced visitor experience.
Indeed, whether you work or study in Sheffield, Sydney or Shanghai, any member visiting London can be assured of a warm welcome at Bastwick Street, and we do hope you will take advantage of our comfortable and convenient facilities if and when you have the opportunity to do so.
Our events programme will begin on Friday 23 January with 2015 President Tim Ibell’s inaugural address (already fully booked), followed by the deferred 2014 Gold Medal address from Tristram Carfrae on Thursday 19 February. Both events have the promise of being very special and inspirational evenings, so do keep an eye on our website and The Structural Engineer for information on these and a week of special events planned for the week beginning Monday 9 March.
As well as a home for our members, it is my belief Bastwick Street provides a great advertisement for the structural engineering profession. We have created a modern, thriving workplace out of a 1960s, steel framed, concrete clad building, working to deliver pragmatic and responsible sustainability solutions throughout the construction process – while also celebrating structural design.
The result is a new home which secures the Institution’s position for the forseeable future, delivering better operations while never forgetting the philosophy and values that have always underpinned our work.
I would like to thank all members for their support and interest during the transition period. What matters now is the use we make of this new opportunity, and I look forward to working with you all as together we seek to further improve our effectiveness.
If you have any queries about the move or new headquarters, then do please email either your regular Institution staff contact or me at firstname.lastname@example.org
