The Structural Awards 2016 Shortlist Focus: Tom Surtees has been a Graduate Member of the Institution since 1999, and a Chartered Member since 2007, practising as a structural engineer for 14 years. Here he discusses his work on The World Trade Centre Transportation Hub (“The Oculus”) a unique structure which will serve over 200,000 New Yorkers a day as a subway and railway hub in Manhattan. The Oculus has been shortlisted in The Structural Awards 2016 “Infrastructure or Transportation” category.

Structural Awards 2016 Shortlist Focus: Katalin Andrasi has been an engineer specialising in bridges for 18 years. Here she discusses her work on the new footbridge at Harlech Castle, one of the finest surviving 13th century military castles in Britain. The new pedestrian crossing, which allows visitors to follow the path of the original draw-bridge, is shortlisted in The Structural Awards 2016 “Pedestrian Bridges” category.
